The Knockers—On Paper is now on display at the New Canaan Historical Society in New Canaan, Connecticut. The exhibit features a wide variety of works on paper—pastels, etchings, drawings, and prints—done by the early Silvermine artists, known as The Knockers. Included in the show are a number of works by Carl Schmitt, among them the pastel House in Silvermine (right). The exhibit also features rare early watercolor by Austin W. Lord (1860-1922), a prominent New York architect and one of the original Knockers who took up painting in his later years. Lord was the father of Carl Schmitt's wife Gertrude. The exhibition will run through Friday, August 30, 2013. For further information, please visit the New Canaan Historical Society website.
